Because he couldn't think of anyone in America that had more desire and strength to get it done. Something so dear to him that he wanted his wife to lead the charge.
Then she basically got nothing done. Same as she will if she's elected. Its too complicated, you can't get it cheap enough for everyone, the government not only can't afford to pay for it, but they can't afford to set up the beaurocratic monster it would take to run it. It will fail once again.
But no one mentions that. If I was Barak, and Hillary started talking about how easy this was and that EVERYONE in America is going to have insurance, I"d say, "WTF are you talking about? You had your chance at this once and you failed. Miserably. If it was so easy, why didn't you get it done 10 years ago? You can't do it now just like you couldn't do it then. It doesn't work your way. Never will."
You have no basis for that statment.Do you think the health care lobbyist and crooked GOP politicians(u know the ones that just got run out of office last election) had a lot to do with killing that?Do you think if she hadnt tried that then we would be this far forward in getting this done?Last presidential election if you asked a gop candidate if he endorsed universal health care they would have laughed at you.Even if hillary doesnt get elected we will all owe her a debt of gratitude for advancing the debate to a reality.

If american companies were going to pay the lions share of the cost of this universal healthcare system I'd be in favor of it. But I have enough taken from me as it is and it'll piss me off if I end up having my wages garnished to pay for the illegals and unemployeed to have heathcare coverage. I believe the only way to make this thing work is to provide it to families who pay taxes. this way under the table dealins with immigrants and the unemployed would make make less an impact on the greater good.

Democrats have always gotten elected because they promise to "give" people something. They never talk about what it will cost or who will pay for it. They just promise blank checks. Its been that way forever.

It won't work. When someone finally puts a pencil to it and everyone finds out what it will cost, it won't work. Just more government beaurocracy and nothing to show for it.
The first thing the poor people will do is figure out that they can quit their job and take welfare and free healthcare and have more $$$ than if they try to take a minimum wage job.
I love how the Democrats buy votes with other people's money.

How have Canada, England, France, Ireland etc... made it work?Way to give up before you even understand what you're getting in to.
All the republican presidential candidates endorse some form of universal health care so who is buying votes again?

You are telling me that John McCain is supporting universal health care? You have no idea what you are talking about.
And if any of the other ones have supported it, then they are out anyway. So that would just be the fringe dummies that always concoct some platform to try and fit in during an election.

I'm more talking about Romney. His plan in Mass is similar to Clintons universal plan.I don't know where Mccain stands but since a majority of americans favor universal healthcare he'll either adopt a plan or won't get elected.

McCain has a very complicated approach to health care. Mostly directed at lowering the costs so that more people can afford it and more employers can offer it. He also supports giving tax credits for the poor if they get insurance.
He's too smart to think that government can step in and do all of this bullshit required to staff and pay for universal health care.

Why can other countries handle it and we can't?

Maybe because other countries haven't created a bunch of other government programs that have managed to create a lazy and non-functional part of their society that contribute nothing but expect the government to fund everything they do?

All the other countries you referenced have had, at one time or another in their history, a strong socialist movement. That died here in the 50s when everybody was looking for reds under the bed. That was the time all these other countries set up their systems. The US is now trying to play catch-up.

So other countries don't have their own version of welfare?Do you really believe that?
Is that seriously you're argument as to why universal healthcare won't work? One doesnt have anything to do with the other.

I would imagine that other countries have a version of welfare. They just didn't impliment it as a peace offering and go overboard with it. They didn't create an entire class of people that no longer have any work skills or work ethic and not only don't won't work, but can't do much of anything.

Not true. We have plenty of those in Ireland. However, we're all the same color, so you can't be branded a racist when you call them out on it.
