ah, you are correct. i read that too fast, and just assumed they meant the civil war. the revolutionary war was our independence from great britain. Caused by excessive taxation on the colonists without any representation in the British parliament by the colonists. Fed up with paying the taxes to the british, the colonists finally declared their independence and Britain was forced to go to war. Led by General Cornwallis the british troops fought the colonists in european style of military operations. Initially, the british troops scored many victories and it appeared that the american colonists would be defeated. Resorting to more unconventional tactics, the Americans slowly began to make headway against the British troops and finally the french navy showed up and Cornwallis was forced to surrender. Result: The united states of america was born and the founding fathers quickly drafted a new constitution based on men's unalienable rights to govern themselves.
