Forum activity meter... - leeman - 10-18-2004

This is a little explanation on how the calculations are made ...

Quote:This mod will add a graphical display to each forum listing which illustrates the amount of activity within the forum.

The formula used to increase / decrease activity is as follows:

Forum activity starts at 0, then...

Total Posts minus Total Topics = SomeNumber;
if SomeNumber is greater than 200, add 20 to Forum activity;
if SomeNumber is greater than 500, add 20 more to Forum activity;
if SomeNumber is greater than 1000, add 25 more to Forum activity;
if SomeNumber is greater than 5000, add 25 more to Forum activity;

If the most recent post was made today, add 50 to Forum Activity;

If the most recent post was made yesterday, add 25 to Forum Activity;

If the most recent post was made this month (not today or yesterday), add 10 to Forum Activity;

If the most recent post was last month, subtract 20 from Forum Activity;

If the most recent post was 2 months ago, subtract 30 from Forum Activity;

If the most recent post was more than 2 months ago, subtract 50 from Forum Activity;

Total of Forum activity = Forum Activity meter image width

Opinion:

Certain enhancements you've made here are fantastic.  Marking threads you've posted in, and tooltip preview included.

Others, like this one, are completely unnecessary and only create more overhead for the site, as well as potentially more time to troubleshoot for you.

- Numbering the replies
- Automatic quote
- Ridiculous number of emoticons (no offense Leu--seriously)
- 90% of the info on the portal page.

Just thought I'd try to add more to the site than my typical "shock-jock" responses.

These sections of the portal page seem to just be filler that clutters things up and is unnecessary:

- New members
- Hall of Fame
- Top Forums
- Calendar
- Google Search

As far as the other things, I feel like I should clarify:

Good
Quote:- Hover tooltips (to preview last post)
Will be back tomorrow.
Quote:- Marking threads that the user has posted in (the icon to the far left of a specific thread is marked if the person logged in posted in it)
Is that gone ???? I'll check.
Quote:The other things I mentioned were things I personally consider excess and offer no efficiency/enjoyment/etc. to the site or the navigation.
I'm allways looking for more mods that ease the navigation as well.
Quote:Additionally-

- Are Post Icons necessary?
Post Icons ??? (Remember i'm a swede... Wink )
Quote:- MemberMap? Few people actually put in their location.
Like 40+

I wasn't commenting on whether or not the functions in question were currently working or not, I was just offering my opinion on feature I consider helpful, and those I consider excessive.

I know ... I answered anyway.... Wink
Quote:Post Icons -- when you create a post--to the left are the emoticons, immediately under the text box which you type your post, you are give the option to Enable sig, etc., immediately below that, you have the Post Icons, which allow you to attach an emoticon to the thread title itself.

Are by default.... Heven't checked if they are removable......

Thank you for your input .....
