Windows 2000 Help Needed - TomFoolery - 01-20-2005

Anyone know how to turn off the 'smart search' function? Example: If I'm going to type "Purple Haze" in the title box it pulls up all titles I've entered that start with the letter "P". I need to turn this feature off. TIA for your help.

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Search from the Address bar, select one of the following:
To view a list of likely matches in the Search bar, and display the most likely Web page in the main window, select Display the results, and go to the most likely site.
To view a list of likely matches in the main window so that you can choose which Web page to display, select Just display the results in the main window.
To view only the most likely Web page, select Just go to the most likely site.
To turn off searching from the Address bar, select Do not search from the Address bar.

Know how to do it outside of the IE address bar? If I do a Google search I still get the 'smart search' function when typing...

What are you talking about? smart search has nothing to do with google search? Are you sure you don't have some spyware installed thats hijacking your browser when you try to search for anything?

Best fix is to go and download firefox. Fix all your problems in 20 minutes.

I know its bad form to quote yourself, but I wanted to clarify this statement. By all your problems, I was talking strictly browser oriented. Even Firefox can't work miracles. Your problems with your tiny flacid penis, no take posts and smackless smacking will probably need some divine intervention.

This board is better when ET is here. Seriously!

Unless of course, you're logged in as TF or Clay.

Was it last week? Things got kind of smokey/foggy around DC last week. I couldn't decide if that was you working on smack or VitE trying to think up his 3rd smack the 2010th time.

Ok, for starters, what the fuck's wrong with smart search? Sure it's a bit annoying but hey, why bitch about a silly thing like that.

Secondly, Firefox does not remove spyware/adware, download a program called Crap Cleaner ccleaner.com if you want that shit removed.

Actually smart search sucks for several reasons. Mainly though I hate it when it decides that a site is not responding fast enough so therefore it doesn't exist and so it does a search for the site and gives you the SAME LINK you just typed in 2 seconds ago. Oh yeah, Genious feature. Did you think of that one?

Firefox does not clean up spywayre thats on your computer, but it sure helps not to catch anymore. Install firefox, clean yer pc of spyware and chuck up rage's latest post as spam.

When I'm out of the office I don't want people covering for me searching for "server" and seeing "show me your tits" or other shit like that. It's a precautionary measure.

here, do we have a shake my head yellow head smiley thing? Or maybe a bang my head against the wall one?

No? Too bad.

So by smart search you actually mean Auto complete. Good thread.

Try internet options -> content -> Personal information -> Auto complete
