Toddler Left Home Alone

CAMDEN, NJ (KYW) A toddler was found home alone Thursday afternoon with no food or water in temperatures near 90 degrees.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Thursday, CBS 3’s Todd Quinones reports a truant officer checking the neighborhood for kids playing hooky heard a baby crying for her mother. He reportedly followed the cries and saw a baby peeking out of the mail slot of a home on the 1200 block of Magnolia Avenue in Camden, New Jersey.

The baby was unharmed and is currently in the custody of the Department of Youth and Family Services. Officials say the home had no electricity and was in deplorable condition.

Neighbors Quinones spoke to say two babies live in the home with their mother and claim she often left her children home alone.

The second child, a six-month-old, was dropped off at a neighbor's house Friday but the search continues for their mother. She is identifed by police as Helenia Garry, 23.

This is the third story I've read/heard today about parents completely neglecting their children. The other two had to do with children dying from being left in hot cars for hours.

I don't understand this shit at all. I treat my cats better than some people treat their babies.

Police say victim was 2 years old

JEANERETTE -- A 2-year-old girl was killed this morning in Jeanerette when whe was hit by a train.

Iberia Parish coronor Dr. James Falterman identified the victim as Onjanae Polidore of Jeanerette. She was pronounced dead at 11 a.m. , about 35 minutes after Jeanerette police received the first call about the accident.


Jeanerette Police Chief Morman Alexander said the girl had been struck by the train as it passed between Mitchell and Kern Streets.

Falterman said he has ruled the incident as an accident, but an investigation and autopsy still are pending.



**Now how did a two year old get onto the train tracks?**
