In the "electro" world it's too a sampling method, a "wawa box" take your voice and makes it all funny and stuff; they make an heavy usage of that in the commercialtechnoshitty stuff produced in mass in Germany and Italy (I'm not talking about general german or Italian music production, only about the fact that they are the specialist to setup this kind of productions).
