Are some kids just born to be fuckups? - Flumper Barflusterbutt - 01-25-2008

Have you ever wondered why some people that seem to be really good parents can end up with one or two really good kids and then a total fuckup? I mean, are some kids just destined to be fuckups or is it a result of parenting?

Well, I suspect that kids need different styles of parenting. What works on one, won't work on another. If you have a really good kid first, and they do what they are told, are home on time, get a job early, don't over spend, do their homework, make good grades, etc.... then I think a parent would tend to "expect" the same from the next kid.

When it turns out that kid needs more attention, more parenting, more time, then they think he/she is a fuckup and they begin to be tough on them, which just works in the opposite.

I think parents have to adjust to each child individually.

Having said that, I'm not sure the answer.

No, I only have one. She's fine, not really to that age yet. But I've got a few friends that are having problems with one of their kids. And this topic came up over dinner the other night. Hard topic to discuss with people that are going through the problem, because you can't say that they had anything to do with it.

Actually, I think its the villagers that cause the bulk of the problems when it comes to raising the kids.

I was joking that day. She's too young to have male friends yet. That should be coming soon, though.

A few weeks ago here, a couple of 12 year olds decided to microwave a cat. Obviously, the cat died. The media was all over it, yelling "where were the parents?! How could they let this happen?!"

For fuck's sake. Raise your hand if you were left alone in the house at 12 years old. Raise your hand if you have left your 12 year old home alone. Raise your hand if you even thought in a million years your kid would microwave a cat.

In situations like that, I don't think that's something you see coming. "Oh, I'd better not leave Johnny alone today. Last night, he was using that microwave and the cat was nearby....he might ..you know, put the two together!"

I bet you could put me in a room full of 40 twelve year olds and within a few hours I could pick out the two that put a cat in a microwave and killed it.

Yeah, they should have actually grabbed a gun and walked into their school and opened fire.

This was not a yes or no question. If you say so.

I bet not. If you (or anyone) could do that, you'd be a valuable commodity in the psychiatric community. You have to keep this in mind: it wasn't one kid experiementing with his cat and microwave. It was a group of 4 young boys. They were encouraging each other, probably calling each other pussies, and one of them decided to push the button. There's nothing pathological there, except maybe stupidity, vulnerability to peer pressure, and more stupidity.

I seriously think I could have seen it (or something similar) coming.
