JCW made me think about this with her comment about Twain being a raging alcoholic. It seems that a lot of really great writers have drinking problems. I am now thinking that the problem isn't that I am a shitty writer, but that I don't have a big enough drinking problem.
Any ideas on how I can go about becoming a high functioning alcoholic? I don't want to end up such a drunk that all I can do is post on message boards all day like they're the be all and end all, so this needs a careful approach.

From what I've seen, you're supposed to put it in a water bottle so everyone thinks you're being healthy and drinking water when in reality, you're getting gooned at 9:30am.

Or break up with your girlfriend and get into a deep, dark depression. Or just get drunk and start banging as many chicks as you can. Give yourself a goal. The more drunk you (and they) are, the more likely you'll reach said goal. Not only will you get trashed enough to write, you'll also be getting laid. It's a win win situation.

See I bought me some 18yr old Glenfiddich (cause it has to be legal age, right?) and had some before and during writing every night, and all I ever really got was sleepy.
