Holiday vs Christmas
#1

What do you think about the "Happy Holidays" vs "Merry Christmas" scenario?

- Do you think Christians are being silly for boycotting stores that use the word Holiday instead of Christmas?

- Are the atheists being too pedantic in insisting that schools not use christmas giving trees? Or in their push for the use of the word holiday?

I haven't sent any Christmas cards out, ever. I wouldn't shy away from Xmas cards though, unless I knew the person celbrated something else, then I might buy them a Channukah (sp?) or Kwanzaa or whatever card.

Aside from the fact that I myself am a Christian, I think the whole damn thing is stupid. Stupid that some crybabies brought the whole situation up in the first place. Whether you are religious or not, Christmas is an American Tradition. It has been since the country was founded. Now just because there are immigrants that want to celebrate their own renditions of the holiday or similar renditions thereof, Americans have to give up on Chrsitmas as we know it so as not to "offend" anyone. It's fucking stupid. If you want to celebrate Quanza, Hannukah, or whatever then go right ahead, just don't expect Christmas to be removed just because you dont like it. I am surrounded by idiots.

I tend to agree with you. I see nothing wrong with some stores wanting to say Happy Holidays - if they want to encompass all celebrations at the end of the year, then more power to them.

What pisses me off, and I am an atheist, is the people that insist that nothing can say Christmas. A school up here had a "Giving Tree" and these assholes complained until the school took the tree down and ended up doing a "Giving Counter". Forget your own petty views and think about the larger picture.

It is even funnier because they whine about the Christmas Tree being a Christian symbol when it soooooo isn't. It might have been adopted the by the Christians in recent (relatively) history, but it is not a Christian Symbol, not even remotely.

People need to get over themselves, seriously.

Agreed. I am fine with the stores using Happy Holidays on their own to be more accepting.

It is the people who say a tree "offends them" that I think are fucking idiots.

if you want some fresh insight from outaworld :

here we say happy christmas (even if in our tongue it doesn't have that christ sonority into it) and technically the day of xmas is the night of the 23 to the 24th for the christians so fi you celelbrate the 24th sayaing happy hippy fuck you all.

no problem.

no seriously that's strange, why the hell shouldn't we say merry christmas and stuff, do any other religious connation is out of the game in your country ? seems not to me so leave that fukken commercial party out of that religious wacking who onyl annoys normal people
