The economy is tanking. We might be in a recession.Home sales are at an all time low.The stock market is terrible.Do you read the papers?

Did you see that people are streaming into Egypt via the Gaza strip, something like 100,000 in a week? What are you smoking to think there will be a Palestinian state formed in the next 12 months. No expert is predicting that in fact the summit that happened a few weeks ago all anyone could talk about was how weak americas influence is in that region.

What about Bush saying he'd fire anyone on his staff who helped leak a covert Cia agents identity? Why didnt he fire Rove?

What about spreading rumors that mccain had a black love child back in 2000?What kind of dignity does that entail?

When you say Iraqs turning a corner what do you mean by that?500,000 civilians were killed in 4 years. Most people in the minority religion were ethnically cleansed or were forced to leave. We arent leaving anytime soon and the government that we set up can't get anything done with out us.Thats progress?

What was GWB's big success while in office?

I hope you are joking.

thanks for all of that but every sentence in my post was a lie. I thought it couldn't be more obvious.

BIRD33 Wrote:If Clinton gets no credit for the economy being great in office why does Bush?

Bottom line everyone from all sides is predicting a recession.Bush didnt propose that stimulus package that just went through for no reason.

In my line of work manufacturers are predicting the housing market wont be back until at least 2010.

You can try to be cute about it but it just points to how bad you need to defend bush for your own ego..

I never attacked Clinton's value to the economy. You just made the statement that Bush had ruined the economy and I was simply pointing out that you are a fucking idiot.

Its already decided by historians that Bush is the worst president ever. You havent a clue.

:lool: Guy isn't even out of office and historians are already predicting history? Give me a fucking break.

Thats what historians do.We've had 7 years of him.Whats he going to eliminate poverty in 12 months? If you want to go down and list his accomplishments I'll list his failures. My list will be 3 times as long.

The problem, in my opinion, with the economy is a combination of the lending institutions making money too available to people that shouldn't have been borrowing as much as they were, the fact that there are new people running the FED now and they have been admittedly too slow to react to the threat of a recession, and the price of oil (which is being blamed on the surge in consumption by China and others, not on the war in Iraq).

The problem with recessions is that no one knows we are in one until we are coming out of it. If we are in one, then we have been in it a while. Considering the cost of the war on our economy, I'm pretty shocked that things have stayed as good as they have. The housing market has been heading for the shitter for years. I could have told you that two years ago. My business, two years ago, was primarily paving new subdivisions. Most of them for "first time home buyers". The developers flooded the market with homes. These homes flip about every 3 to 5 years, so now its cheaper to buy a 3 or 4 year old house than it is to buy a new one. So, that market has crapped out. Now most of my business is in re-construction of existing streets. That business is booming. The cities are going apeshit with all of the new tax revenue that has been generated from the housing boom the past few years.

Economies are cyclical. Always have been. Same with elections.

On a serious note, no one could have predicted 9-11 when Bush took office. (well I guess that you could argue that anyone else would have seen it coming, but lets assume for a minute that any president would have been caught off guard by that event).

If 9-11 hadn't happened, do you think that Bush would have started the war in Iraq?

I don't think any president would have seen 9\11 coming.

He might have tried but I don't think he would have been able to convince people to go if 9\11 never happend.Fear was a big motivator, 30% of the country still thinks Iraq had something to do with 9\11.Plus Bush ran on a platform of not being a nation builder.

Yeah, I don't think so either. I think he would have tried to play hard ball with Saddam and pushed for sanctions and inspectors and pushed the no-fly zone stuff, but a full out war I don't think he would have ever sold.

The only reason that I ask, is that so many people swear to this day that he got elected to begin a war with Iraq to make money for the oil companies and Halliburton. I honestly think that is playing monday morning quarterback.

I agree that fear had more to do with "selling" the necessity of the war, but I think what the higher-ups were most concerned with was the growing reputation that we were developing in the middle east about being afraid to stand up. I have read that Bin Laden developed his theory that we were all talk and no action after the Somalia thing, where the troops were dragged through the streets.

I actually never thought we would actually start a pre-emptive strike and even up until the day it started, felt that something would happen to back everyone off. Like the Cuban missile crisis.
