Yes. Just an annual bonus though, nothing as fancy as a Christmas Bonus.

Hell yes.I had a killer year.3 checks on top of my regular pay check.I'm using the money to move to another place along with buying a new bed and some other boring shit.Best part is I held my biggest commission check till now so I get that on top of the bonus.Everyone else gets 1 check.Times are tough.

I wonder how many companies are holding out on their people because of the doom and gloom in the papers about next year?We are kind of doing it too.I have access to my companies books so I know we had a great year and it was better than '07 when we gave everyone 2 checks but this year we are holding out with the one.If someone complained I really wouldnt know what to say except how do you like your job?

I had this exact conversation just a few days ago. This is going on all over the place. People had good years in 2008 and yet they are cutting back on bonuses because of the outlook for 2009.

I had to put together bonuses for our employees a couple of weeks ago and it was tempting. But, I kept telling myself that the bonuses were the reward for what they had done in 2008, not what is going to happen in 2009. So I used the exact same formula for doing it as every other year. It was slightly more than we paid out in 2007 and was the most we had ever paid out.

I did tell the employees that get the largest bonuses that they might as well get ready for 2009, because it probably will not be that great. They understand that times are tough right now.

None of our guys really questioned what was given to them but if I was them I would have.Everyone seems preoccupied with just having a job right now.

You should feel good about the government money coming down the pike if you are in road construction, no?I wouldnt bank on it by any means but Roads, Schools and other infrastructure are things being targeted for Obama money which is rumored to be a huge amount.I'm worried about our level of activity decreasing but being that I'm mainly commercial I'm not as freaked out as I would be if I did residential.

Well, the rumors in our market (road construction) are that Obama is going to be a good thing. And I heard this week-end that he reiterated the fact that he is going to put forth an $800 billion plan for infrastructure in roads and bridges. So, I know that he plans to do that. My problem, is with the bank bailout and auto bailout and whatever other impending bailouts there are going to be, where is that money going to come from. How far in debt is congress going to tolerate before they say "no more". I mean, I know they are all for it. Bringing jobs and helping the economy, but with all the other government debt, I'm afriad it might be all talk.

But, we'll see. I tend to take a very very conservative approach when it comes to forecasting the environment for my company. I'm prepared for 2 years of break even to slight losses, and my hope is that there will be 1/2 the competition or less by the end of that time for those that survive it.
