It appears Bill Laimbeer has landed an NBA gig.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune, citing an NBA source, reported late Saturday that new Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis will add the former Shock coach and ex-Piston to his staff.

Laimbeer, 52, resigned three games into the season as Shock coach and general manager after winning three WNBA titles in seven seasons as coach. He stepped down to pursue an NBA coaching job.

"It's time for me to be doing something else," he said at the June news conference. "I want to coach in the NBA, and I think it was not fair to the Shock to try to coach them while my focus and passion were somewhere else. I don't have another job, but it is something I want to explore. Whether it is a head coaching job or something as an assistant, that's what I want to do."

He doesn't have any NBA coaching experience.

NOTE: Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva suffered a twisted ankle in the final minutes of the Dominican Republic's 78-73 victory over Venezuela on Saturday at the FIBA Americas championship. He told ESPN.com "it's nothing bad" and was expected to play in Sunday's game against Argentina. He had 28 points and 12 rebounds Saturday as the Dominicans advanced to the second round.
