Essa Khan, 51, has worked at the four-star Gilgit Serena Hotel, at the foot of the Karakorum Mountains in northern Pakistan, for 20 years. He routinely inspects recently vacated rooms.

During a recent room examination, he found $50,000 worth of $100 bills inside a bag in the room's safe deposit box. The amount is more than 17 times what the father of five makes in a year.

So he turns it in at the desk and they hunt down the owner. It took the Hotel 3 days to track down the owner, an employee of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. According to the Telegraph, the Japanese man hadn't realized the large sum was missing.

The hotel rewarded Khan with 10,000 rupees ($164).

That $50k is about as much money has he has made in his whole entire 20 years of working there.

I wanna say I'd do the right thing and turn it in, but especially right now, running away with 20+ years of income and starting over sounds awfully damn tempting.

Well, let's put it into terms we can understand.

I would guess that a 20 year employee of a nice hotel in the US, that was in charge of checking rooms after guests checked out would make around $35,000 a year? That could be a little high, but 20 years is a long time.

And they said the amount was 17 times more than his annual salary. So, 17 x $35,000 = $595,000 cash

In $100 bills I don't even know if you could get that all in the trunk of a car.
