Notre Dame is not a very good football team. - snarg - 11-28-2006

so, you are 100% against a playoff system??

btw, the above reasons are basically bullshit:

"Players would be harder-pressed to be students," is particularly humorous.

I think academic part is a joke as well.I'm for keeping the traditions of college football intact.I don't think you can keep all the bowl games and still have a playoff system. If you could I'd be for it but at the same time I don't want to see the Rose Bowl relegated to a second round game in November with Boise St. and Rutgers playing each other.I think the point made regarding playoffs reducing interest in the regular season is totally valid.I flip through regular season college basketball for the same reason unless it's one of the teams I follow. The reason college football is just as good as the NFL isnt because of the level of play it's because of the tradition that comes with it.If you can figure out how to keep the bowls as they are now I'd be for it but I don't think thats possible and anything else is wrecking what makes the sport unique and great.

how about a plus one or a four teamer?

Do you mean 2 Semi's and then a championship game?I'd be for it if you called them them bowl games and rotated the finals between the major bowls. The thing with that is you still have the same hurt feelings based on computers and polls.Look at this year, how do you pick who the best 11-1 team without the same BCS bullshit especially with LSU at 10-2 and Boise St. undefeated? If you are going to do a fair playoff you'd have to go in my mind 10-12 teams to make sure nobody can complain. At that point you have no choice but to change college football traditions forever.

someone will always complain
there are 65 teams for cbb, still get complaints
a plus one or four team playoff after the bowls would be great
and far less room for whining when it is over
rarely more than four teams who are really in the hunt, so a plus one would prob be enough

Theres a difference between complaining at 5th and complaining at 65th.Either way you arent getting away from the BSC rankings and some will still feel cheated. If they could do it after the bowl games I think that would be the most fair but unless the regular season got cut down a few games(and thats not happening) the national championship would be in March.

Notre Dame is not a very good football team. - snarg - 11-28-2006

if they were to do it after the bowls, it should be set up for 1 v. 4 and 2 v. 3 in the bowls

IMHO, that would be an improvement over the present system and would not affect many of your negative aspects of a playoff

You would think it would work and generate extra millions for the schools but I think its difficult to keep a team healthy from Sept to Feb\March.Also it would be hard for these "Academic Institutions" to justify having their "Students" play football for basically an entire school year.

Who else would think it would work and generate extra millions for the schools but he or she think its difficult to keep a team healthy from Sept to FebMarch ?Why do you want hard for these Academic Institutions to justify having their Students play football for basically an entire school year?

wouldn't even need an extra week
use the present bowls, no prob

Could the fact that there are 40 million Catholics in the United States, and no other major catholic colleges have anything to do with Notre Dame getting preferential treatment because of the viewing audience they bring?

Notre Dame is not a very good football team. - BIRD33 - 11-29-2006

Depaul, Xavier, St Joe's, Gonzaga,Duquesne, Seton Hall, Boston College etc...

Of course the fact that there are a ton of Catholics in America makes there viewing audience big.Does Seton Hall get preferential treatment because they are Catholic?Notre Dames history of excellence which brought the huge following is the reason they get special treatment.

I meant "football" colleges, but I guess you could throw Boston College out there.

I don't think half the catholics in America know that BC is catholic. If you replaced Catholics with Irish Americans your post would make more sense to me.

I didn't know they were catholic either, but you threw their name out.

I did.I am a catholic but I doubt to many think about rooting for a team because of that.90% of ND fans are Irish and are fans because they are the "fighting irish" not because they are catholic. You don't see to many Polish or Italians besides Dick Vitale(his daughters went there) at the games.

In four years at the helm of Notre Dame's offense, Brady Quinn is 29-18 as a starter. Not too bad huh? Well, when you take out Stanford, BYU and the service academies that record changes to 17-18. That's legendary?

Quinn has never won a bowl game (0-2) and has never beaten USC (0-4). And while he's racked up tons of yards (11,614 career) and touchdowns (93 career) those numbers don't mean much without big victories. Hell, Timmy Chang put up huge college numbers, but he isn't considered an all-time great.

I looked long and hard for big wins in Brady's career and found two. Both over Michigan. But he only threw for a combined 318 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions in those games. And the 2005 win was over a Wolverine team that ended up 7-5. To be fair, they beat an 8-4 Penn State team this year, which is a decent victory. And in 2004 he led the Irish to a 17-13 road win over a No. 11 ranked Tennessee team.

So that's maybe four decent wins in four years? And he's supposed to be a storied quarterback. If you're not convinced that wins make great quarterbacks and want to point out Brady's statistics here's something to think about: People fail to mention how horrible he looked against Georgia Tech and UCLA this year, in games the Irish should have lost. In the Georgia Tech game he finished with a 79.5 rating, UCLA forced him into a 95.0 rating, and against USC last weekend, Quinn ended up with 48.9% completions and a 90.4 rating
.

This is funny too. Obviously made by a Miami or FSU fan.

USC fucking sucks.Josh David Booty is a faggot of massive proportions.I suspect he will not be any good until he picks one name and goes with it, Josh David sounds like a kid enrolled at the local nursery school.UCLA is not a good football team.Is it more embarrassing to lose to two top ten teams as your only two loses or to Oregon St. and UCLA? Since USC is rebuilding when are they going to get a QB who doesnt have letdowns against shitty teams?Keep in mind Jimmy Clausen is going to Notre Dame.
