Danielewski right?

Local Bands - leucifer - 02-01-2010

On the nose, yup. So does that mean you've read it?

Local Bands - bam - 02-01-2010

Actually, no, I haven't. I've meant to, but I never have. What's your take on it?

He writes fucked up books. But in a good, creative way. House Of Leaves is a great horror story that really plays on your imagination. It's a little tricky to follow at times, because it has three stories in it, but it's a good read.

That whole part of Hey Pretty (the remix) that starts "Kyrie suggested we go for a drive in her new 2-door BMW coupe, In the parking lot, we slipped into her bucket seats. Kyrie took over from there." is actually him reading from the book. And I think there's a lot more tie ins to her album, for example she has that one song The Five and A Half Minute Hallways, which is definitely from the book.

Local Bands - bam - 02-01-2010

Very cool- so in other words, I need to pick it up already and read it?

I like things that are fucked up.

Local Bands - leucifer - 02-01-2010

Then yes, pick it up and read it. Then report back, we'll be waiting.

Local Bands - bam - 02-01-2010

Alright, I'll definitely check it out. Fucked up things make me feel more sane.

Local Bands - bam - 02-01-2010

Do I need the full color version?

Local Bands - leucifer - 02-01-2010

bam Wrote:Do I need the full color version?

I don't think so... It isn't like there's pictures in the book. I think the color is for some of the text and stuff, but to be honest I don't remember. If it is much more don't bother, I doubt you'd be missing much, if anything.

Local Bands - bam - 02-01-2010

Okay, cool.

Local Bands - Banana - 02-01-2010

Then read: Only Revolutions.

then, tell me how it is :$ Since I can't get through it.

Seriously? Why not? It's a great read, I was thinking of reading it again.

I have ADD. How did you read it? Like, the story and then the story though the other way? And the side quotes and events? Because, I can't help but read it all at once. And it's fucking confusing.

To be honest I ignored the side quotes and timeline of events. I read the rest like they suggested, 8 pages from one story, then flip and 8 pages from the other. They overlap perfectly, so it makes the most sense to take that approach.

:$ Oh. "Who" suggested this?

Banana Wrote::$ Oh. "Who" suggested this?

Either the author or the publisher. It was in the notes I think, at the beginning.

Local Bands - Banana - 02-01-2010

There's a little manual about how to read the book? ><

Ok, it's on the jacket. the New York Times review explans it. I might try it again with that in mind, but ignoring the margins is hard for me.

As far as I could tell they didn't contribute to the story, so fuck em.

Local Bands - bam - 02-01-2010

I'll try that one out too then. Sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Only Revolutions is written in poem form. It's about Sam and Hailey. How to explain this. Starting on one side of the book, the top of each page is Sam, the bottom (upside down) is Hailey. You read 8 pages of Sam. Turn the book upside down, flip to the other side of the book, and read 8 pages of Hailey. It's very different, but I dug it. And the 8 pages each keeps things making more sense because those 8 page chunks of relate to each other.
