My wife is very down to earth... We don't do birthdays, anniversary or valentines presents. We do buy each other christmas presents.
We talked about it after things got serious and decided it'd be money well spent.
Our first valentines day.. I bought her a dozen roses.. she told me if I felt like doing that on valentines again to just give her the money because they overprice the flowers on valentines.
