that's all fine, but if the Mets had even a mediocre bullpen last year they win the division by a mile. call them chokers and rip on the manager all you want (it's even deserved) but they lost last year because of their bullpen and their bullpen only.

i think k-rod's overrated, but the Mets did what they needed to do to solidify their bullpen.

Thats a very slighted opinion. If it came from someone that wasn't such a Mets hater, I would give it credence. Because it's just not true to begin with.
Like I said before, I look forward to this year, it's gonna be a tight race, as I see it. The Mets 'did what they needed to do' as far as the Bullpen, is true. But you need to GET the lead to save it. I'm still concerned with spots 6-8 in their lineup.
Phils have few holes in their offense, but still a solid lineup.
I think Wertz had a great year, but don't think he's that guy consistently. As a Met fan, I fucking HATE him. He's got that intangible thing most players lack- heart.
Howard can only go down as far as strikeouts are concerned. I mean, FUCK, he HAD to work on that, so I assume he'll see less K's this year.Which can only be good for the team when he puts wood on the ball.
Can't imagine Rollins or Utley being any less consistent than they were last yr.

I disagree with your first statement. Going into last year, there were countless prayers said for the bullpen. On paper, they were NOT solid. This year they are. Big difference.
Phils pen had a once in a lifetime record of holding and saving games last year. I expect some blown saves this year, and I can't wait to hear the countless jeers from the Philly fans' frustration. This WILL happen.
Wooly said it best about the Mets pen. They blew way too many leads.
Defense wins games. Without pitching, you're nowhere. Mets got the pitching they needed, and we all expect better things in 2009.
