Is there a worse group of hitters to face for a pitcher in the bottom of the 9th tie game then the phillies 1 thru 6 guys?Last night the cubs had Smarzjeda(I have know idea how to spell it, I must be a terrible Notre Dame fan) on the mound and they walk Ibanez and then Howard to get to Werth who makes them pay with the HR.Wake me up during game one of the world series cause this pennant is wrapped up.

The pitching sucks/hurt. They only have the ability to outslug the opponnent. Insert an AL team with pitching and they won't make it too far.

I don't think they're any more or less likely to win than the Dodgers, Yankees, or Red Sox...and only slightly ahead of the Rays and Angels.

phils pursuit of halliday worries me.
they may more in need of a closer than a starter. i would rather go after lee for less prospects and go after another closer/set up guy. lidge has been less than stellar as of late.
they also need a right hander of the bench.
bruntlet must have pictures of charlie manual and a goat. he couldn't make most slow pitch softball teams.

You were having a great week here until this post.Madsen and Lidge are at worst a average closer option for any team.You have to ride out this rough spot especially since the one guy was fucking perfect last year and a trade for a closer would effectively shatter his confidence.

Starting pitching is their weak spot.

there are quality starters the phillies could use. i wouldn't give up drabek, happ,and brown. that's too steep.
this team almost traded ryan howard for chris benson a few years ago. pittsburgh actually turned it down.
i would look at washburn and lee also.
holliday going to the cards makes them much better.

Don't you get this is the best phillies team in 25 years and approaching the all time greatest status?None of their top 8 players will still be at their peak in the 3-4 years it takes for Drabek to be a actual factor.Even thats a crap shoot.Remember how good duckworth or whoever was supposed to be a few years back?They don't have a real good chance of winning a world series after the core of the team is gone in 4 or 5 years so what are we saving up for?They have a chance to lock down a back to back world series by getting halliday.Do you get how you can't think 5 years from now when you have chances like this?

2-3 years ago hamles and duckworth were the untouchables. i agree happ could be kyle kendrick. happ was beating the yankees before the bullpen blew the game.

don't get me wrong, i would love halladay here. i just hope amaro isn't in over his head. i just checked lee is only 1 year younger. so halladay is the better of the 2.
halladay has a more proven track record.
