Never heard of No depression but alt country sounds interesting. Did you ever hear anything from Mike Ness's Cheatng at Solitaire?
I'm gonna go track down some of this No depression and I'll let you know what I think. B)

COUNTRY!!
aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
Can't do the country thang.
alt country or no deprssion (coined by a song by Wilco) is stuff made outside of nashville. it ranges from traditional arrangements, such as slide guitars and fiddles combined with a mix of rock flavor to downright southern rock. some of the more known innstances are Steve Earle, Pat Green, Jerry jeff walker. Its kinda the 90's and 2000's outlaws.
if you have kazaa or itunes i recommend
steve Earle- the other kind, copperhead road, angry young man
son volt- windfall, drown.
bruce robison- my brother and me, angry all the time
charlie robison- my hometown, john o'reilly, the wedding song,
Kelly Willis- wrapped, not forgotten, what world are you living in
Pat green-three days, carryon, wave on wave, threadbare gypsie soul
Listen outside the zone y`all. Highly recommend the following Irish acts:
Snow patrol
The Thrills
The Frames

I always did like Copperhead Road...probably because of all the talk of growing weed. Well, that, and my granny was a moonshiner...shhh.

They don`t play traditional Irish music for a start. They are more along the lines of Coldplay and The Strokes but their songwriting and musicianship is first rate.
