It's Christmastime, not Easter, but the DuPage County Animal Care and Control Center in Wheaton has some rabbits available for adoption — 69 of them, to be exact. All of them were found recently in a one-bedroom apartment.

Officials said the domesticated Dutch rabbits that were discovered during a recent eviction, and the female tenant told animal control workers her financial situation had overwhelmed her.

Authorities would not identify the woman nor the location of her apartment.

Center executive director Kerry Vinkler called it a typical pet-hoarding situation, but she said all the rabbits but one were in good shape when they were found.

Vinkler estimates the oldest rabbits to be about 18 months old and said Dutch rabbits have a life span of eight to 12 years.

We had rabbits as pets for a while. I joined 4H for some strange reason in 5th grade.... and decided to show rabbits. So we bought two rex rabbits and they ended up breeding. When they had babies we gave the litter away except the black one. We named it chef and kept it. We eventually just let them go in our fenced in yard and they acted pretty much like dogs. Chef would get out every now and then to eat in the front yard but he'd always come back.

I've never owned a rabbit. I've had dogs, cats, a frog, a hamster and fish though.

A friend of mines parents have always had rabbits and they treat it like a dog too.Just let it roam around the yard and it their basement.Its funny because it actually comes when you call it.

Yea its pretty neat.It spends the whole day in their back yard and never leaves even though its not fenced in fully and at night they call it and it goes in their basement.It chews through all the wires in their house occasionally.

I have a friend who had a rabbit for a pet too.

They ate it one year.
